Meet Diane (Joslyn) Butler, Oneida CSD Alumna, Class of 1983

Some of Diane’s favorite memories from her time at Oneida CSD include Sadie Hawkins dances and the friendships she made throughout her high school years.

Diane credits Miss Cardinale-Montesano, her ninth-grade English teacher, with making a lasting impact on her high school experience. She remembers how Miss Cardinale-Montesano brought literature to life by incorporating creative skits related to the books the class was reading. One particularly memorable moment came during a skit based on West Side Story. Two male classmates were acting out a scene when one appeared to punch the other in the face. Diane still remembers the priceless look on Miss Cardinale-Montesano’s face when she thought the punch was real!

During her junior and senior years, Diane attended BOCES, where she completed a program in practical nursing. She passed her state boards on her first attempt and worked as a practical nurse for five years before continuing her education at SUNY Morrisville.

Diane has since built a diverse and rewarding career in nursing, gaining experience in medical-surgical nursing, the ICU, emergency medicine, insurance, and occupational health. Today, she works as a Registered Professional Nurse in ambulatory surgery.

To future graduates, Diane offers this advice: "Make the most of your senior year and adult life. Get involved and enjoy life! Don't let anything hold you back from meeting your goals!"

From the friendships and memorable moments of high school to a career spanning numerous areas of nursing, Diane’s journey reflects a lasting commitment to learning, caring for others, and making a difference in the lives of those around her.
