Pursuant to the SAVE law, all individuals seeking employment in a school setting and all applicants for certification must undergo a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check. The Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability (OSPRA) of the New York State Education Department manages this process.
Candidates will be reimbursed by the District for fingerprints once employed and working for the District. More information about this process is available on the state education department website.

Distinguishing Features of the Class:
The work involves responsibility for the efficient and economical cleaning and maintenance of a building on an assigned shift. Work is performed under general supervision with some leeway for the use of independent judgment in keeping the building up to approved standards of cleanliness and operation. Supervision may be exercised over the work of Cleaners. Does related work as required.

Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment, and ability to use them economically and efficiently; working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of building heating equipment; ability to make minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs and perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks; ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written directions; ability to get along well with others; willingness to perform custodial and other manual tasks; thoroughness; dependability; ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience in building cleaning or minor maintenance activities.

Distinguishing Features of the Class:
This is routine manual work performed under immediate supervision in connection with the preparation and serving of food and maintaining the sanitary condition of the kitchen and equipment. Food Service Helpers may occasionally perform cooking duties involving lesser degrees of skill than regularly required of employees in the classification of Cook. Food Service Helpers will do related work as required.

Working knowledge of the proper methods of serving food and of the care of tableware, glassware, silver, and kitchen appliances; practical working knowledge of modern cleaning methods and the use of cleaning supplies and appliances; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to meet the physical demands of the position.

Distinguishing Features of the Class:
The purpose of this position is to assist School Teachers with the part of their non-instructional duties that relate to the teaching process. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the teacher(s) responsible for the student’s instruction.

Graduation from High School or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma
Per Diem Teacher Substitutes
The daily substitute teacher rate is $131 per day for certified teachers and $114 per day for non-certified teachers. Retired teachers will be paid $142 per day. Regular substitutes are paid daily rates for the first twenty (20) days of continuous service. On the twenty-first day, they are paid a daily rate commensurate with their step on the Oneida Teachers' Association Salary Schedule. They shall be paid only for the days they work. They do not receive pay for holidays nor do they receive sick leave or personal leave benefits per contract.
Substitute nurses
The daily substitute nurse rate is $119 per day. Retired nurses will be paid $139 per day.
Procedure (per diem teacher sub, sub teaching assistant/aide, and sub nurse)
1. Complete the substitute application and submit by mail to OCSD, 565 Sayles Street, Oneida, NY 13421
2. An interview is required. Oneida interviews when needed based on its current pool of substitutes. Candidates are notified via phone to schedule interviews as needed.
3. A reference check is conducted following the interview.

Long-term Substitutes
Long-term substitutes are those substitutes assigned to replace teachers who are ill or on leave of absence for one semester or longer. They shall be paid according to the Oneida Teachers' Association salary contract. These substitutes would receive a proration of benefits per the Oneida Teachers' Association contract.
