Meet Michael McCormick, OCSD Class of 2014!

Some of Michael's favorite memories from his time at Oneida City School District revolve around music. From concerts and field trips to everyday band and choir rehearsals, those experiences provided countless lessons and even more laughter.

After graduating from OCSD in 2014, Michael attended Westminster Choir College, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Voice) in 2018. He then taught high school choir at Holmdel High School in New Jersey for three years before continuing his education at Rutgers University, where he earned a Master of Music in Choral Conducting in 2023.

In addition to his degrees, Michael has served as a Summer Conducting Fellow at the Yale School of Music, the University of Cincinnati, and Berkshire Choral International.

Today, Michael serves as the Associate Director of Choral Activities at Princeton University, where he is also the Associate Conductor of the Glee Club and Chamber Choir. He teaches conducting courses and private lessons, conducts operas, and prepares students for graduate school auditions.

Alongside his work at Princeton, Michael is the Director of Music at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and the Music Director of Ars Musica Chorale, a community choir in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

To future graduates, Michael offers this advice: "You never know who might be watching or whom you might cross paths with later in life. Doing excellent work on a small job may lead to much greater opportunities in the future."
