OCSD Honored with BCME Award

The Oneida City School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award from The NAMM Foundation for our outstanding support and commitment to music education.
Now in its 27th year, the program continues to spotlight and celebrate school districts and individual schools across the United States for their exemplary dedication to music education and their ongoing efforts to ensure equitable access to music learning as part of a well-rounded education.
The award reaches K-12 communities nationwide, offering both recognition and momentum to strengthen and expand music education programs. In 2026, more than 1,000 school districts and schools—including The Oneida City School District—have been recognized for outstanding achievement in providing access to high-quality music education.
Director of Music (PK-12), Stephanie Gwilt expressed her #OneidaPride,
"Music is an inextricable aspect of the human experience that develops the whole brain, activates the emotions at our core, and even promotes physical well-being. I am proud to devote my life's work to Oneida City School District's music department, as we educate the whole child by fostering musical knowledge, skills, and exposure to a world of possibilities. What we do for our students brings harmony and humanity to public education."
OCSD was selected through a comprehensive application and review process that evaluates key indicators, including funding, instructional time, participation rates, facilities and community support.
We are proud to be recognized once again, a testament to the strength of our music program and the incredible work of our educators and students. This honor reinforces our commitment to providing meaningful and accessible music education for all.
