Brushes & Bites: A Family Engagement Event at OSMS

The OSMS Counseling Department and our Community Liaisons recently collaborated on a creative and family-centered engagement activity designed to bring middle school students and their families together for a fun evening at school.
We partnered with retired OCSD art teacher, Lisa Billington, owner of The Painted Goose, who led families in a guided painting session of a seasonal fall scene. To complement the activity, families enjoyed cider and donuts, adding to the cozy autumn atmosphere—hence the name Brushes & Bites.
This special event was made possible through funding from the Mental Health Grant. The focus was not only on fostering creativity but also on building positive school connections, strengthening family relationships, and promoting student well-being.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with families expressing their appreciation and sharing how much they enjoyed the evening together.
