Flood of Thanks: Featuring Oneida Maintenance and Custodial Teams

In the aftermath of the recent flooding at our high school, we want to give a #FloodOfThanks to our dedicated Oneida custodial and maintenance teams.
As daylight began to break on Sunday morning, it was our custodial and maintenance staff who were on the scene, ready to tackle the overwhelming challenges that lay before the District. With the support of the Oneida Castle Fire Department, they sprang into action, conducting thorough assessments of the flood. Together, they worked tirelessly—pumping water from the kitchen and boiler room basements, restoring safety and stability one carefully grounded step at a time. The commitment shown by everyone involved during those first few chaotic hours and days was nothing short of inspiring.
In the following days and weeks, the team dedicated themselves to longer work days, and some even forfeited scheduled days off. They successfully located and installed generators while also undertaking debris removal to facilitate remediation efforts. Amidst the stress and urgency of the situation, the camaraderie among the staff was palpable. They collaborated with food services to transfer contents from the high school coolers into refrigerated trailers, ensuring the preservation of perishable food items, and with the IT team to bring temporary power to the network closets.
Our teams are not just maintaining—they're transforming. With vision and dedication, they’ve begun breathing life back to our outdoor spaces and inside of our school buildings. Teams are working hand in hand—painting, cleaning, and revitalizing every corner with care and purpose. This spirit of collaboration and forward-thinking ensures that when the time comes to return to the high school, they are ready with ‘’all hands on deck” to get the high school back and better than ever.
The effort and heart shown by every member of the custodial and maintenance teams remind us of what it means to be part of a community. It’s about coming together in times of crisis, supporting one another, and working tirelessly for the greater good.
Thank you, Oneida custodial and maintenance teams, for your exceptional commitment and hard work. This is what dedication looks like. This is what teamwork feels like. And this is how we move forward—together.
