Renowned Syracuse native, Sean O’Loughlin Visits OHS

The OHS Music Department recently undertook an exciting educational initiative by commissioning an original work for band and chorus titled "Empower," composed by the renowned Syracuse native, Sean O’Loughlin.
As part of this learning experience, Mr. O'Loughlin visited OHS to collaborate closely with the students in the wind ensemble and choirs. This interaction provided valuable hands-on experience, allowing students to engage with a professional composer and understand the creative process involved in writing music.
A particularly unique aspect of this piece is that the music and lyrics were crafted based on suggestions and words contributed by the students themselves. This not only highlights the collaborative nature of music composition but also empowers the students to express themselves and see their ideas reflected in a tangible art form. Such projects foster creativity, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for the arts within the school community.
The world premiere of "Empower," which draws inspiration from the OCSD mission statement, will take place at the conclusion of the Choral and Band Concerts on June 4th. We hope you'll come to support our amazing Music Department and students!
