District Updates From Superintendent Matthew Carpenter

Posted Date: 7/18/24 (11:58 AM)

Dear Oneida City School District Community,

We hope you are all having a great summer and we are wishing everyone well in both our community and surrounding communities considering the recent severe weather and damages that have occurred.

Below, Superintendent Matthew Carpenter, has provided a list of updates for our elementary school transition. We anticipate another update to come in early August.

Before & After School Program:

  • The YMCA was awarded a 5-year grant that will provide free before and after school care to students at our three elementary buildings.

  • 40 slots will be available at each building. The YMCA and District will work together if the interest from families exceeds 40 slots.

  • Each building will be staffed with a Site Director (1), Group Leader/Supervisor (2), and a Site Assistant (1-2).

  • Hours will be 7:00-8:30am and 3:30-6:00pm. Parents may choose to sign students up for either morning or afternoon or both sessions.

  • Staff to Student ratios will be:

    • Ages 3-4               1 staff:8 students

    • Ages 5-9               1 staff:10 students

    • Ages 10+              1 staff:15 students

  • Information on registration for before and after school programs can be found at YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley - YCare Before & After School / Vacations (ymcatrivalley.org)

Transportation:

  • AM busing routes have been set. Majority of siblings will ride AM routes together with drop offs at each building. Our Transportation Department is making final adjustments to routes during July and will send home details in August.

  • PM routes are being established now. Each elementary building will have dedicated buses. Siblings from different buildings will not ride on the same PM buses.

  • Questions should be directed to the OCSD Transportation Department @ (315) 363-5470.

Elementary School Open House, Supply Drop Off, Visit:

All elementary classroom and furniture moves have been completed. Teachers across the elementary schools are busy setting up rooms. A huge thank you to our custodial and maintenance crews for getting moves done and working to get buildings looking great. Parents are encouraged to reach out to respective elementary principals with questions or to visit the school. Below is a list of scheduled activities for each elementary school.

  • Popsicles on the Playground @ Willard Prior:       5:00-6:00pm on Tuesday August 13th

  • Open House and Supply Drop Off:

    • Willard Prior:      4:00-5:00pm on Tuesday, September 3rd

    • Seneca Street:   4:30-5:30pm on Tuesday, September 3rd

    • Durhamville:      5:00-6:00pm on Tuesday, September 3rd

Thank you for your cooperation and support during this transition. We wish you all a great rest of summer and look forward to getting back to another year of school!
