2023-2024 School Year COVID-19 Updates
The Oneida City School District follows the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).
Illness/Testing Positive for COVID-19
Staff and students who test positive for COVID-19, or exhibit symptoms of the virus, should stay home and follow the CDC’s Isolation Guidance.
- A student or staff member who tested positive for COVID-19 and has no symptoms may return to school after day 5*.
- A student or staff member who has symptoms of COVID-19 may return to school after day 5 if they have been fever-free for 24 hours - without the use of fever-reducing medications - and symptoms are improving.
- It is recommended that staff and students wear a well-fitted mask on days 6 - 10 of returning to school after isolation when around others.
*Note: The day symptoms begin or a student/staff member tests positive is considered “day 0.” If symptoms recur or worsen after isolation ends, restart isolation at day 0. When in doubt, staff or parents/guardians of students should contact their healthcare provider.
Masking
Staff and students have the option to wear a mask while at school. After returning from isolation, students and staff should wear a well-fitted mask from days 6 - 10.
Testing
Students and staff should test for COVID-19 as soon as symptoms appear.
