OSMS Incident 3/22/18
Posted on 03/22/2018

Dear students, parents, and community members:

I am writing to inform you that this morning, an Otto Shortell Middle School student reported that another student made remark that could be construed as threatening toward the school.

Administration and our School Resource Officer were immediately notified and they   conducted an internal investigation/threat assessment and determined the threat to be not credible.  The student indicated that the statements were made in an attempt to provoke a response from a friend.  The statement caused a perception that a problem could occur at the school. Madison County Sheriff’s office was notified of the incident.  Classes will continue as normal and counselors will be available for students.

As always, safety is a top priority within all of our schools and buildings in the Oneida City School District. Essential to this commitment is open communication with parents about safety issues when they arise.

Sincerely,

Mary-Margaret Zehr

Superintendent
